Decarbonisation and retrofit services
ODS’s experienced Property Services team helps to improve energy efficiency and performance through building retrofitting, upgrades and modifications.
Retrofitting can help to keep energy bills down, by reducing heating costs in the winter and aiding in maintaining cooler temperatures within properties during warmer weather. Furthermore, retrofitting plays a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions originating from buildings.
Retrofitting and decarbonisation services in Oxfordshire
What does retrofitting involve?
Retrofitting involves updating existing buildings to boost energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions. This process encompasses the integration of contemporary technologies, such as insulation and energy-efficient systems, to reduce a building's environmental impact without necessitating a full rebuild.
What is the UK’s policy on retrofitting and decarbonisation?
In November 2020, the UK government pledged to create a new Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), totalling £3.8 billion over a decade starting from 2021/22, as part of its election manifesto. This fund is dedicated to helping housing providers upgrade their properties to meet the energy efficiency level of EPC C by 2030.
The objectives of the SHDF include providing, warmer, more energy-efficient homes, lowering carbon emissions and energy costs, addressing fuel poverty, and promoting employment in the green energy sector. ODS has experience in delivering SHDF projects and programmes of work in Social Housing and also in the able to pay marketplace.
