Supporting a Hospice Through Rapid, In-Kind Collaboration
Summary
When local hospice, Sobell House, lost access to an essential outdoor storage unit, their fundraising team reached out to ODS for help finding a fast, affordable solution.
Requirements
The hospice relied on this space to store equipment for community events and urgently needed a replacement. ODS’s Property Services team quickly identified a suitable in-kind option: installing a durable outdoor shed on the hospice’s existing hardstanding. To deliver this efficiently, ODS partnered with one of its trusted contractors CEF Brick and Stonework, who were immediately willing to get involved.
Solutions
Within hours of receiving the request, arrangements were underway. A site visit was scheduled, measurements were confirmed, and delivery and installation were secured for the following week. On the day, teams from both organisations worked together to prepare the area and support the fitters as they installed the structure.
Results
Despite cold and wet weather, the collaboration was warm and energetic. The new shed fit perfectly in place and provided more storage capacity than the hospice had before - an important enhancement for their operations.
Feedback
Beth Marsh, Director of Fundraising for Sobell House said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the swift support. Losing our storage created a significant challenge, and the new space allows us to stay focused on providing vital care and support to our patients and their loved ones.”
Elliott Mackinnon, Director at CEF Construction Group Ltd said: “We were pleased to help. The hospice needed a quick turnaround, and our team was glad to contribute to an organisation that makes such a meaningful local impact.”
This project demonstrates how ODS continues to support its charity partners through practical, hands-on contributions - reflecting our commitment to being a business that “does good.”
