Client

Oxford City Council is the local district council serving the City of Oxford.

Requirement

Parking in many of the housing estates owned and maintained by Oxford City Council had become an issue, with vehicles parked on verges and green spaces, causing obstruction to other road users and dispute amongst residents. 

In 2015 the Council embarked upon an ambitious scheme to improve those housing estates, creating additional parking spaces and generally improving the local environment.

Solution

ODS worked with stakeholders to identify and prioritise areas that required improvement, created designs and obtained planning permissions to enable the construction works to take place.

A budget of £450k per annum was allocated for a rolling programme of improvement works to encompass the creation of additional and improved parking facilities for local residents. Some of the works were carried out at difficult to access sites and alternative parking for residents during the improvement works also had to be arranged. Each parcel of work was completed to a tight timeframe with the minimum amount of disruption.

Results

To date we have created 479 additional parking spaces across the city, enhancing the local environment for residents.
