EV Charge points installation
Client: M&M Zero
Project: Installation of 4 22kw EV charge points
Department: Fleet and Electric Vehicles
Date of completion: August 2021
Summary
M&M Zero (M&M Waste Solutions) partnered with ODS for the installation of four 22kw EV charge points at their Oxfordshire site. This project supported the launch of their zero-emission waste collection service, ensuring their fleet of electric vehicles remained operational.
Requirements
M&M Zero needed a reliable EV charging infrastructure to support their new fleet of electric waste collection vehicles. With prior experience working with ODS on groundwork projects and knowledge of ODS’ expertise in EV infrastructure installations, they entrusted ODS to manage the project from start to finish. The initiative aligned with Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford City Council’s Zero Emission Zone (ZEZ) goals to enhance air quality and promote sustainable travel.
Challenges
Meeting the strict launch deadline for M&M Zero's new service while ensuring timely installations.
Designing and implementing a robust EV charging solution to support daily operations effectively.
Coordinating various project aspects, including groundworks, electrical connections, and system commissioning, while minimising disruption.
Solutions
ODS designed, managed, and installed a six-bay EV charging area, including four 22kw AC Business Line chargers. The groundwork included the installation of duct lines for each charger and a curbed island to serve as bump control for vehicles. ODS handled the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept discussions through to commissioning and training.
Results
The project met all technical and timeline requirements, exceeding the client expectations. Staff received comprehensive training, allowing them to manage the charging systems efficiently. This collaboration further strengthened the partnership between M&M Zero and ODS, with discussions already underway for future expansions.
Feedback
"To ensure that the launch of our Zero Emission waste collection service using 100% electric vans was a success we chose to use ODS as our installation and service partner.
"From the initial concept meeting to mobilisation, groundworks, civils, electrical connections, installation, commissioning and service, the ODS team delivered everything on time and in specification. They exceeded our expectations with their technical knowledge and project management skills, overcoming every challenge to ensure that we met our launch day target. They also ensured that our people had the training to manage the system going forward.
"We will have no hesitation to continue our partnership with ODS as our service expands throughout Oxfordshire and the surrounding Counties”
